Chaturthi

Chaturthi Tithi

Chaturthi is the fourth day of the lunar fortnight. It is a day of intense energy, traditionally associated with the removal of obstacles and the testing of resolve.

Symbolism and Meaning

Chaturthi represents the "turning point." The energy of the moon is building up, creating pressure. This pressure can manifest as an obstacle (Vighna) or as the force needed to break through. It is a day that requires focus and wisdom.

Ruling Deity: Ganesha (Remover of Obstacles)

The presiding deity of Chaturthi is Lord Ganesha, the Lord of Intellect and the Remover of Obstacles. This is why Chaturthi is famously known as Sankashti (for removing troubles) or Vinayaka Chaturthi. Worshipping Ganesha on this day is believed to clear the path for success and grant the wisdom needed to manage complex situations.

Auspicious Activities

  • Overcoming Hurdles: Tackling difficult tasks or resolving long-standing issues.
  • Worship: Special prayers to Lord Ganesha.
  • Caution: Traditionally, new auspicious beginnings (like marriage or business launches) are avoided on Chaturthi, except for Ganesha-related festivals.
  • Strategy: Planning how to deal with competitors or legal challenges.
