Papankusha Ekadashi falls during the Shukla Paksha of the Ashwina month.

Meaning and Significance

'Papa' means sins and 'Ankusha' means an elephant goad (a tool used to control elephants). This Ekadashi acts as a goad to control and destroy the "elephant" of sins. It is believed that observing this fast provides the same merit as performing multiple arduous pilgrimages.

  • Liberates not only the devotee but also ten generations of their family (maternal and paternal).
