Pausha Putrada Ekadashi falls during the Shukla Paksha of the Pausha month. It is the second of the two Putrada Ekadashis in a year.

Meaning and Significance

Like the one in Shravana, this Ekadashi is dedicated to the blessing of children. It is particularly popular in Northern India. Parents observe this fast for the health, prosperity, and longevity of their sons and daughters.

The Legend

King Suketuman of Bhadravati had no children and was so distressed that he contemplated leaving his kingdom. While in the forest, he met a group of sages near a lake. They advised him to observe the Pausha Putrada Ekadashi. He and his queen followed the vrat meticulously and were soon blessed with a brave and virtuous son who later became a great king.
