Kartika is the eighth month of the Hindu calendar. It is widely considered the holiest month of the year for both Vaishnavites and Shaivites.
Significance
The entire month of Kartika is dedicated to lighting lamps (Deepas). It is believed that lighting a lamp during this month helps dispel the darkness of the soul.
