Margashirsha

Margashirsha is the ninth month of the Hindu calendar. In the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna says, "Among months, I am Margashirsha."

Significance

Margashirsha is a month of devotion and early morning prayers. It marks the beginning of the winter season and is considered highly pure.

Major Festivals

  • Gita Jayanti: The day Lord Krishna spoke the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna.
  • Dattatreya Jayanti: Celebrating the birth of Lord Dattatreya (Trimurti Avatar).
  • Mukkoti / Vaikuntha Ekadashi: (Sometimes falls in Margashirsha or Pausha).
