Lord Hanuman

Lord Hanuman

Hanuman is one of the most popular and beloved deities in the Hindu pantheon. He is a semi-divine being (Vanara), the son of Anjana and Kesari, and is also considered the spiritual son of Vayu (The Wind God). He is the supreme devotee of Lord Rama.

Significance and Traits

Hanuman is the embodiment of Bhakti (devotion), Shakti (strength), and Brahmacharya (celibacy). He is revered for his:

  • Unwavering Devotion: His entire existence is dedicated to the service of Rama and Sita.
  • Immense Strength: Capable of carrying mountains (like Mount Dronagiri) and changing his size at will.
  • Wisdom: Though often associated with physical power, he is also a master of grammar and a wise counselor.
  • Chiranjeevi: He is one of the eight immortals who are believed to remain alive on Earth throughout the current age (Kali Yuga).

Role in the Ramayana

Hanuman is the hero who located Goddess Sita in Lanka and played a pivotal role in the war against Ravana. His leap across the ocean to reach Lanka is a celebrated story of faith and courage.

  • Gada (Mace): Represents physical power and moral authority.
  • Tail: A symbol of his Vanara identity, which he once used to set fire to Lanka.
  • Posture: Often shown kneeling with hands folded in prayer or opening his chest to reveal Rama and Sita in his heart.
