Lord Yama
Yama is the God of Death and the upholder of Dharma (Cosmic Law). He is the son of Surya (the Sun).
Significance
Yama is the guardian of the South direction (Dikpala). He judges the souls of the departed based on their karma. He represents the inevitable law of cause and effect.
Iconography
Yama is depicted with green or dark skin, riding a buffalo. He holds a mace (Gada) and a noose (Pasha) to capture souls.
