Shravana Putrada Ekadashi
Putrada Ekadashi falls during the Shukla Paksha of the Shravana month.
Meaning and Significance
'Putrada' means "giver of sons." While the name suggests the blessing of progeny, it is observed for the overall well-being, longevity, and success of one's children. It is one of the two Putrada Ekadashis in a year (the other being in Pausha month).
The Legend
King Mahijit of Mahishmati was a just ruler but had no children. Distraught, his subjects sought help from Sage Lomasa. The sage revealed that in a previous life, the King had committed a minor sin related to water during an Ekadashi. He advised the King and his subjects to observe the Shravana Putrada Ekadashi. After performing the vrat, the King was blessed with a noble son.
